Betsy Devos, bizarrely the new Education Secretary
"But I'll tell you what they don't want. They don't want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not interested in that. That doesn't help them. That's against their interests. They don't want people who are smart enough to sit around the kitchen table and figure out how badly they're getting fucked."
God, how true that old statement rings today. The ugliness continues. Betsy DeVos is the face of the dismantling of American education, of placing the interests of massive corporations above the interests of young people, students, an educated population.
It boggles the mind that Devos has actually been named Education Secretary. Labor unions, rights groups and teaching organizations denounced her. The ACLU said that during her time as Michigan Republican Party chairwoman, she promoted “elevating for-profit schools with no consideration of the severe harm done to traditional public schools.” In 2001, she ominously stated that education reform was a way to “advance God’s kingdom.”
DeVos is pro-Creationist, anti-public schools, and the sister of piece-of-shit Erik Prince, who is best known as the founder of Blackwater, a security firm that became a symbol of U.S. abuses in Iraq. Prince sold the firm, but has continued building a private paramilitary empire with contracts across the Middle East and Asia. Wicked shit, none of it in any way concerned with the best interests of America.
Just like Trump used to own stock in Tomahawk missiles, which were used in the recent attack on Syria. No one exactly knows if Trump still owns this stock today, because he declines to release his taxes and financial details. There’s a real possibility he made a tidy profit from that attack, folks, and this also brings to mind why his refusal to enter into genuine “blind trusts” with his businesses is bullshit of the highest caliber.
And military experts are calling the use of those particular missiles "a poor choice." Not to mention, Russia was warned ahead of time. These are parlor tricks, folks, another reality TV show, and not a single life will be saved by that attack.
Plenty of decent people voted for Trump, out of feeling disenfranchised and completely fed up with greedy, gridlock partisan politics. It's understandable, in many ways. But it's sad, because it's one of the great cons in the history of American politics.
If you voted for Trump, and you're not independently wealthy––or if you give a damn about equality, human rights etc.––you were conned. The quality of your children's education will suffer. Trump's promise to lower medication prices was bullshit, of course, and he completely dropped it after a meeting with Big Pharma. He's already rolled back workplace regulations that promoted equal pay for women and protected them from sexual harassment; he officially made American women second-class citizens.
On and on. Yeah...the biggest con I've ever seen in American politics. The only closing words that fit, again belong to the late great George Carlin:
"Good, honest, hard-working people ––and these are people of modest means––continue to elect these rich cocksuckers who don't give a fuck about them. They don't give a fuck about you, THEY DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOU. They don't care about you. At all. At all. At all."
